Rules are being finalised by the Election Commission of India for exercising adult franchise by ten million people of Indian origin, PIOs, and Non Resident Indians, NRIs across the globe. Briefing newsmen on the 9th edition of Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas in New Delhi today, the Overseas Affairs Minister Mr. Vayalar Ravi said ,the Parliament has already passed a law in this regard following the announcement of voting rights to PIOs and NRIs by the Prime Minister last year. The Overseas Ministry and External Affairs Ministry have had adequate consultations and now the Election Commission of India is framing the rules. Giving details of the three day event beginning on Friday, the Minister said that 1,500 delegates from 51 countries are expected to participate in the event. The theme this year is engaging the global Indian. The special focus will be on presenting and showcasing north-eastern states of the country.
