Prasar Bharati, India’s Public Service Broadcaster, is hosting the 59th Asia Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) General Assembly 2022. The conference began in New Delhi on 25th of November and will continue till 30th of this month.<br />”<br />”The theme of this year’s assembly is Serving the People: Media’s Role in Times of Crisis. The event coincides with Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav to mark the 75th year of the India’s Independence. <br />”<br />”The ABU is a nonprofit, professional association of the broadcasting organizations of Asia and pacific region.<br />”<br />”Briefing media in New Delhi yesterday, Prasar Bharati CEO, Gaurav Dwivedi informed that around 300 international delegates from 40 countries representing 50 organizations are participating in the event.<br />”<br />”He said the conference will deliberate on entire gamut of broadcasting. He highlighted the important role played by the electronic media during the Covid crisis. Replying to a question, he said self-reliance in the field of broadcasting is a challenge and Prasar Bharti will address it gradually.<br />”<br />”Mr Dwivedi said All India Radio and Doordarshan have been among the most trusted sources for news.<br />”<br />”On the occasion, ABU President Masagaki Satoru said, ABU's greatest strength lies in its diverse membership. ABU Secretary, Javad Mottagi said AIR and DD have been very active in spreading awareness on COVID.<br />”<br />”The Conference is first of its kind in the Broadcasting sector, which is being held after Covid pandemic, in the physical form. It is expected to strengthen relations with Foreign Broadcasters, particularly from ASEAN countries, thus favoring the Act East Policy of the Government.<br />
