Prasar Bharati elected to ABU administrative council

Prasar Bharati has been unanimously elected as a full member of Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union's (ABU) administrative council at its general assembly held at Seoul. The ABU has more than 220 member broadcasters from 58 countries and runs a daily Asia vision satellite TV news exchange, the Prasar Bharati said in a statement released in New Delhi

Describing it as another feather in the cap of Prasar Bharati, CEO Jawhar Sircar said the membership gives India a direct say in matters as crucial as policy issues affecting broadcasters, negotiation of telecasting rights for major sporting events and ability to put across its point of view on the global flow of information. He said that the members of his team personally met with members of dozens of national public service broadcasters to present India’s claim for candidature and after seeing the huge support for India, other candidates withdrew their candidature and Prasar Bharati was chosen unanimously.
