With the rupee depreciating to a new 32-month low against the US dollar, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today said, the Reserve Bank is keeping a close eye on the situation. Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi, Mr. Mukherjee said, he is seeking advice from RBI over the issue. Asked on what will be a comfortable rate of exchange and the likelihood of intervention by the Central bank, Mr. Mukherjee refused to make any speculations over the issue.The Finance Minister's comments come a day after the Indian rupee plunged to a 32-month low below 51 rupees per US dollar on persisting demand for the US currency from banks and importers. At the Interbank Foreign Exchange, the domestic currency closed 44 paise lower at 51.34 rupees per dollar yesterday.
