The high-level Congress committee tasked to give a report on the Mumbai-based Adarsh housing society controversy has said that it will need more time to do its job. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, heading the two-member committee, met fellow panel member Defence Minister A K Antony last night shortly after arrival from Kolkata. Mr Mukherjee told reporters after meeting that he will require some more time to go through the documents and prepare a report for Congress President Sonia Gandhi. Mrs Gandhi appointed the two-member panel to look into the matter after Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan offered to resign during a meeting with the Congress President on Saturday in connection with the controversy. Meanwhile, former Army Chief Gen Deepak Kapoor, one of the three ex-service chiefs who were allotted flats in Adarsh Housing Society, said the episode has caused great anguish to him and that he has sought termination of his membership. Gen. Kapoor told a TV Channel that the former service chiefs had no idea that the flats were meant for Kargil war widows and that he is not involved in any kind of nepotism.
