Pranab expresses hope GDP growth will cross 7.5 %

Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee has said that a balance has to be struck on the issue of continuing of the stimulus packages. Addressing a function organised by the Indo-American Chamber of Commerce in Kolkata yesterday, Mr. Mukherjee said stimulus package should not be prolonged so as to make public debt hard and prevent the private sector from accessing resources because of huge government borrowing. Finance Minister, however said, he is against any hasty withdrawal of the stimulus measures, as it is too early to conclude that the economy has firmly come out of the morass. He expressed the hope that the overall GDP growth will cross 7.5 per cent this fiscal. Mr. Mukherjee opined that the present negative growth in the agriculture sector will be compensated by industrial growth touching the double digit figure.
