Pranab: agri sector needs massive investment to meet Food Security Bill requirements

Union Finance Minister Mr. Pranab Mukherjee today said massive investments are needed in the agriculture sector to meet the requirements of the Food Security Bill. The Minister said this while addressing the two day conference of Food and Agriculture Minister of States and Union Territories.

Mr. Mukherjee said the challenge of providing food to all can be achieved through investments in agriculture, enhancement of production and application of technology. He urged Centre and States to collectively address the constraints of ensuring food security to the poor and the under privileged.

Mr. Mukherjee said the expectations of the people can only be met by an efficient political and administrative system by ensuring rural jobs, education of boys and girls and Right to Information. Mr. Mukherjee also said the flagship programme MGNREGA has created a benchmark in the rural areas and it is irreversible.
