Congress in Andhra Pradesh got a major boost when Chiranjeevi announced the merger of his Praja Rajyam Party, PRP with it. After weeks of back channel talks between the two parties, Chiranjeevi met Congress President Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi on Sunday and finalised his merger plans. After the meeting, Chiranjeevi told reporters that merger with Congress was agreed upon without any pre-conditions. Welcoming the move senior Congress Leader Mr Veerappa Moily said Chiranjeevi will be a strong leader of the party in the state. Chiranjeevi's PRP, which was launched in August, 2008, has 18 MLAs in the 294-member Andhra Pradesh Assembly.
