Powerful typhoon kills six in Philippines

At least six people were killed by a powerful typhoon in Philippines today as it blew out of the Northern Philippines. The officials said, these Six people died either from drowning or by being pinned by fallen trees, poles and a collapsed concrete wall in the provinces of Quezon and Albay, southeast of Manila. <br/><br/>Christmas festivities were spoiled in the country as more than 3 lakh eighty thousand people abandoned celebrations at home to reach emergency shelters. More than 12,000 travellers were stranded as 300 flights were delayed or re-scheduled and ferries were barred from sailing. Nock-Ten, locally known as Nina, then blew westward across mountainous and island provinces, damaging homes, uprooting trees and cutting off the communications.<br/><br/>The government forecasters said after weakening on landfall, the typhoon had sustained winds of up to 120 kilometers per hour and gusts of 180 kilometers per hour when it blew into the South China Sea after striking the provinces of Batangas and Cavite.
