A powerful explosion rocked the Kasaba area in the northern part of the Afghan capital Kabul this morning. The place is near the Kabul international airport and the air base of the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan. Initial reports suggest that it was a terrorist attack.
The Afghan intelligence agency-the National Directorate of Security (NDS) yesterday claimed that Afghan security forces foiled several coordinated attacks by militants in Kabul city by arresting 22 members of a terror outfit. According to the NDS the extremists were planning to carry out 9 suicide attacks on some high profile locations including the Kabul International Airport in the city.
