Officials in Indonesia say, the number of people killed on Wednesday’s powerful earthquake in the island of Sumatra could exceed a thousand.One of the areas hardest hit was Padang, the capital of Western Sumatra. Rescue teams are busy helping the victims.<br/> <br/>A disaster relief official said, so far two hundred bodies have been pulled from rubble, but the Indonesian authorities expect the number of bodies to rise sharply. <br/> <br/>Hundreds of buildings including hospitals, shops and hotels have collapsed, burying large number of people.The earthquake also triggered landslides that cut off roads and power and telephone lines. <br/>
