Powerful earthquake hits off Japan's northeastern coast

A powerful earthquake struck off Japan's northeastern coast today. The U.S. Geological Survey said the 6.2 magnitude quake struck near the coast of Honshu, about 155 kilometers east of Tokyo at a depth of 10 kilometers. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries. Japan's Meteorological Agency said there was no risk of a tsunami. . A spokesman for Tokyo Electric Power Company said there was no damage to the Fukushima nuclear power plant.
