The Delhi government has banned all realty sales through transfer of General Power of Attorney, GPA, with retrospective effect from October last year. The move follows the Supreme Court's order last October that no sale deed will be registered if it is through a GPA transfer. The state revenue department has directed all 13 sub-registrar offices, Delhi Development Authority and NDMC to register transactions afresh with complete documents carried out on GPA transfer since October. Our correspondent reports that on an average around 20 percent of registries are done through GPA transfers. The GPA is a common way practiced for selling leasehold properties and those that don't have a clear title.
