Union Power Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde has constituted a three member Committee to probe into the failure of Northern Grid.
Talking to media persons in New Delhi today, Mr. Shinde said, power to essential services has already been restored and overall supply of electricity will be restored soon.
The power problem started around 2.30 a.m. last night. Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Rajasthan were the affected states.
The power failure hit essential services including train services, airports and Delhi Metro in the region.
Mr Shinde said, this is the first power grid failure during the last ten years. He said, the measures are being taken to avoid these type of faults.
These include inter-connectivity of different power grid zones in the country by 2014.
The inquiry committee will be headed by Central Electricity Authority Chairman. Other two members are Power Grid Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Power Supply Operation Company.
