Power Min proposes 1 lakh additional power in 12th Plan

The Power Ministry has proposed a capacity addition target of 1,00,000 Mega Watt to the Planning Commission.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function in New Delhi today, B K Chaturvedi, Member of Planning Commission, said the Planning Commission is likely to accept the proposal for the 12th

Five-Year Plan (2012-2017).

Mr Chaturvedi also said the final call would be taken by the National Development Council.

AIR correspondent reports, the government had set a target of 78,577 Mega Watt during the 11th Five-Year Plan period, which was curtailed to 62,000 Mega Watt by the Planning Commission in its mid-term review citing coal shortage and environment reasons.
