POSCO work to start within a year: Steel Min Official

A senior Steel ministry official has said that work on the much-delayed Posco unit in Odisha will start within a year. Speaking to reporters in Mumbai on Thursday, U P Singh, Joint Secretary in the Steel Ministry said that Odisha has transferred a significant chunk of land required for the mega project to Posco.Referring to the issues faced by steel companies in getting approvals, Singh said the Cabinet Committee on Investment is trying to revive large projects that have been stalled due to various reasons. Singh said that iron ore supply, affected by interim ban on mining, is likely to improve in the near future. The Joint Secretary further informed that divestment in state-run Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited would take place when the capital market situation improves.
