In Andhra Pradesh, the allocation of portfolios to the newly sworn in ministers has been creating trouble for the Kiran Kumar Reddy’s government as several senior Ministers are unhappy with their portfolios. In a midnight development, Vatti Vasantha Kumar, who was given Tourism portfolio against the earlier Rural Development has even offered to resign from the cabinet. Alleging that weaker sections have not been given due importance, he told reporters that he has faxed his resignation to Chief Minister. About 8 other Ministers were huddled in a meeting in Mr. Vasanth Kumar's residence after last midnight. Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy has allocated portfolios to 39 ministers late last evening. Among the Ministers who have expressed unhappiness with their portfolios are Dharmana Prasada Rao who was given Roads and buildings, Ponnala Lakshmaiah IT, Botcha Satyanarayana -Transport, Kanna Laxminarayana -Housing. C. Damodar Rajanarsimha-Higher Education, Danam Nagendar-Labour-, Jupally Krishna Rao -Endowments and Komatireddy Venkat Reddy-Infrastructure & Ports. All of them are senior Congress leaders who have earlier served as Cabinet Ministers.Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has deputed Finance Minister Anam Ramnarayan Reddy to speak to the Ministers who are dissatisfied with their portfolios. AIR correspondent M.S. Lakshmi reports that the confrontation of the ministers is likely to dominate today’s meeting of the new cabinet. Unhappiness among some senior ministers over the allotment of portfolios has been causing a major revolt against Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy in less than 24 hours after forming his cabinet. In a series of developments taken place late last night following allotment of portfolios has led to even submission of resignation by Vatti Vasanth Kumar, who was given Tourism. Alleging that weaker sections were not given due importance, he faxed resignation letter to the Chief Minister. Similar contention brought over half a dozen senior ministers together at a meeting held at Vasantha Kumar’s house after midnight. Alleging that majority of significant portfolios were given to one particular social group, few of them have expressed their dissatisfaction to Chief Minister and threatened to follow suit. The pacifying efforts made by Chief Minister’s envoy Ramanarayana Reddy who was given Finance have yield no results. Meanwhile, the first meeting of the new cabinet scheduled to be held today is all likely to witness Ministers’ dissatisfaction over portfolios.
