Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister S. Jaipal Reddy today launched a LPG Portal to ensure transparency in the delivery of domestic LPG cylinders to the consumers.
Talking to media persons in New Delhi, he said this initiative is expected to emerge as a powerful tool for social audit for all domestic LPG supplies. He said the portal will not only benefits consumers but it is also a unique resource for civil society to access LPG distribution information, report discrepancies and register their feedback on the anomalies in supply, if any.
The portal is intended to make all the stakeholders accountable, thus leading to a just and equitable distribution of the subsidized LPG fuel. Mr Reddy said that Oil Marketing Companies are expected to incur a subsidy burden of 43 thousand crores rupees this year for supplying LPG. Last year it was 30 thousand crore rupees.
Our correspondent reports that nearly 14 crore households across India covering urban, semi-urban and even rural India are expected to benefit from this initiative. The LPG Transparency portal can be accessed through the official website of the Ministry www.petroleum.nic.in.
