Popular Indian car models fail crash tests conducted by NCAP

Popular Indian car models including Maruti Celerio, Maruti Eeco, Renault Kwid, Mahindra Scorpio and Hyundai Eon failed crash tests by vehicle safety group Global New Car Assessment Programmes (NCAP). The UK-based group tested five models and found that the vehicles showed low levels of adult occupant protection. In a release yesterday, Global NCAP said, the latest Indian crash test results rated all five models as zero star. Industry experts however raised question about the test as the Global NCAP tested vehicles at a speed of 64kmph. The most advanced safety standards in Europe and US has guideline for the crash test at a speed of 56 kmph. India is also adopting 56 kmph in its regulations from 2017.
