Poovamma, Joseph win silver medals in Asian Athletics C'ships

India have added four medals to their kitty in the on-going 21st Asian Athletics Championships. On the second day at Wuhan, China, today, Quarter-miler Machettira Raju Poovamma and heptathlete Liksy Joseph won a silver each. Poovamma clocked 53.07 seconds in women's 400 metres finals to finish second behind China's Yang Huizhen. In heptathlon, Joseph, who was trailing at sixth place at the end of opening day yesterday, won the silver with personal best of 5,554 points.Teammate and former Asian junior champion Purnima Hembram got the bronze with 5511 points. G Lakshmanan, employed with Indian Army, also secured a bronze medal in men's 5000 metre race. India's medal tally has now swelled to one gold, two silver and two bronze. Yesterday, Inderjeet Singh had bagged a gold in men's shot put event to open the country's medal account.
