The government has said that the river Ganga would be pollution-free by 2020. Speaking to newsmen in Varanasi, the Environment Minister Mr. Jairam Ramesh said, the 15,000 crore rupees will be spend for cleaning programme under river development fund. He said the clean-up involves building modern sewage treatment, revamping drains and other measures to improve the quality of the river water.<br/><br/>Mr. Ramesh said, the Centre plans to save the river by making it pollution-free smooth flowing. He said the World Bank has also committed at least one billion dollars as assistance for cleaning up the heavily polluted Ganga in the first phase.
