Polling was held today for six Lok Sabha seats spread across Manipur, Nagaland, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh where Assembly elections for 49 seats were also held.
Nagaland registered a heavy turnout with 82.5 per cent polling for the lone seat, while voter turnout in Arunachal Pradesh for Assembly as well as Lok Sabha seats in the State was about 71 percent till the end of the scheduled poll time. Manipur witnessed about 70 percent polling in one Lok Sabha seat while it was 64 percent in the two seats in Meghalaya.
Briefing reporters in New Delhi, Deputy Elelction Commissioner Alok Shukla said that polling percentage in Manipur and Meghalaya may go up as there were voters still in queue outside polling booths when reports last came in. Due to the queue of voters, the voter turnout may also go up in Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh as well, he added.
