In Andhra Pradesh, the Polling is underway to elect 10 members to the Legislative Council from the Assembly quota. Returning Officer S Raja Sadaram said by 1PM, 246 members from the 294-member house have cast their vote. The polling will continue till 4PM. Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy and most of the Ministers have cast their vote during the first hour. A total 12 candidates are contesting for 10 seats which are falling vacant following retirement of existing members. These candidates included five of ruling Congress, one each of its allies Praja Rajyam and Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen and three of Opposition Telugu Desam and one each of Telangana Rastra Samithi and CPI. While the Congress is supporting the PRP and the MIM candidates, the TDP is supporting the CPI nominee. However, about 20 members loyal to former Kadapa MP Jaganmpohan Reddy who launched a new party recently are expected to affect the outcome of these elections. The counting will be taken place from 5 PM onwards and results are expected to be announced in two or three hours from then.
