Polling underway in Jharkhand and J&K in the fifth and last phase of election

In Jharkhand, about 14 percent polling has been recorded during the first two hours till 9 am in 16 constituencies in the fifth and last phase of election. AIR correspondent reports that maximum 16 percent electorate have exercised their franchise in Pakud assembly constituency, followed by 15 percent polling at Maheshpur, Shikaripada, Godda, Rajmahal and Poreyahat constituencies. The minimum 11 percent votes have been recorded in Dumka and Nala constituencies.

Polling is going on under tight security. Three vehicles have been seized by security forces, which were being plied by different political parties without permission in Godda district. No untoward incident has been reported from any of the poll bound districts of Dumka, Pakud, Jarmundi, Sahebganj, Godda and Deoghar.

In Jammu and Kashmir, polling for the 5th and final phase of Assembly Elections is going on peacefully across the 20 constituencies in the three poll bound border districts of Jammu, Kathua and Rajouri today. There is no report of any untoward incident so far from anywhere. Around 14.5 percent polling has been recorded in the first three hours. Highest 22 percent polling was reported from Akhnoor and R.S.Pura constituencies.

Elaborate security arrangements have been made and 400 companies have been deployed for today's polling apart from regular deployment of police forces. Security arrangements along the Indo-Pak border have been strengthened with troops put on alert for the polls. Despite cold weather, people were seen marching towards the polling booths and long queues of electorate were seen outside the polling booths to exercise their franchise
