Peaceful polling is going on for by-polls in Parliamentary constituencies of Medak in Telangana, Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh and Vadodara in Gujarat and for 33 Assembly constituencies in nine states.
According to reports, up to 5 p. m. 55 per cent votes were cast in two constituencies in West Bengal.
Over 62 percent votes were reportedly polled in the four assembly seats in Rajasthan.
In Uttar Pradesh, the polling picked up in the second half today. Average 46 % votes were polled in the eleven assembly constituencies till 4.00 PM whereas Mainpuri Loksabha seat recorded around 48% voting during this period.
Talking to AIR , Joint CEO Ramakant Pandey said that polling has been peaceful and no untoward incident has been reported from anywhere.
In Rajasthan, polling has ended peacefully in the bye- election of four Assembly Constituency in Rajasthan.
According to initial information above 66% voting has been reported.
Maximum 70% vote were polled in Nasirabad while 69.8% polling reported from Suraj Garh at Weir 62% and Kota South 61.7% polling reported.
In Gujarat, moderate polling has been recorded for the by-elections of Vadodara Loksabha seat and 9 seats of state Assembly today.
Polling was completed peacefully barring few incidents of bogus voting and several complaints of violation of election code of conduct. According to sources, average 45 percent turnout was recorded till 5 pm.
Apart from Vadodara Loksabha seat, nine assembly seats which went for polling were Deesa, Maninagar, Tankara, Khambhaliya, Mangrol, Talaja, Anand, Matar and Limkheda (ST).
Vadodara Loksabha Seat and Maninagar Assembly seat were vacated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while other 8 assembly seats were vacated following BJP MLAs elected for Loksabha.
AIR Ahmedabad correspondent report that with today’s polling, the fate of 49 candidates have been sealed in Electronic Voting Machines EVMs for one Lok-sabha and nine Assembly seats in the state. Counting of votes will be taken up on 16th September.
In Assam, peaceful polling has been reported at Silchar, Lakhipur and Jamunamukh constituencies.
Deputy Chief Electoral Officer, P K Doley said that around 67 percent polling has been reported in the by polls.
Jamunamukh constituency has recorded 71 percent voting while Silchar has reported 63 percent voting.
Lakhipur constituency has recorded 66 percent of voters’ turnover.
A total of 25 candidates are in fray including the Congress, BJP and AIUDF.
Asom Gana Parishad has not fielded candidates in the by poll.
Doley also said that the state Election Department has sought a report from the concerned officer on the alleged malpractice at a polling booth in Jamunamukh constituency as reported by a section of media.
Meanwhile, Congress has lodged a complaint to the Chief Election Officer against BJP for allegedly violating model code of conduct by publishing advertisement today.
