In Gujarat, polling is underway for 24 District Panchayats, 208 Block Panchayats and 53 Nagarpalikas. Elaborate security arrangements have been made for free and fair polling in Panchayat Elections. Quoting official sources, AIR Ahmedabad Correspondent reports that moderate and peaceful polling is reported from all part of the state so far. About 17 thousand candidates are in fray for total 6765 seats of Disdtrict Panchayats, Block Panchayats and Nagar palikas. About 2 crore 48 lakh voters are eligible to use their franchise. The main fight is between BJP and Congress. About 93 seats have already been declared elected unopposed. Counting of votes will be held on Saturday- 23rd October.
