In Assam, amidst tight security arrangements, polling is underway for 64 assembly segments spread over 14 districts in lower Assam area including the Bodo belt. The Polling began at 7 this morning and will come to an end at 3 this afternoon. Over 96 lakh voters will decide the electoral fortune of 496 candidates including 47 women. Political bigwigs whose electoral fortune will be sealed in EVMs include two former Chief Ministers- Prafulla Kumar Mahanta and Bhumidhar Barman besides the President of main opposition party the Asom Gana Parishad Chandra Mohan Patowary. Over sixty thousand jawans of central paramilitary forces have been deployed for trouble free polls.
