In Andhra Pradesh, polling is underway for 9 seats of the state Legislative Council from the Local Authorities Constituencies. Polling has been peaceful so far at the 27 polling stations set up in 8 districts across the state. The districts include Anantapur, Kadapa, Nellore, West and East Godavari, Srikakulam, Chittoor and Kurnool. A total 33 candidates are in the fray while 6,785 voters constituting ZPTCs, MPTCs and Gram Surpanches of the respected areas are exercising their franchise. Polling will continue till 4 o clock in the evening and counting will be taken up on March 23. Keen contests are on the cards between candidates of the ruling congress, Opposition Telugu Desam and the supporters of former Kadapa MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy. Chief Electoral Officer Bhanwarlal said the entire poll process is being webcast live for the first time to maintain transparency.
