In Uttar Pradesh, polling is progressing peacefully in Pipraich assembly constituency of Gorakhpur district. Our correspondent quoting poll officials reports that around 45% polling has been recorded till 4 pm. Polling was hampered at half a dozen places during the day due to faulty electronic voting machines which were replaced later. No untoward incident has been reported from any part of the constituency. The Samajwadi Party, Bhartiya Janata Party and 11 independent candidates are in the fray. Our Gorakhpur correspondent reports, the Congress and ruling BSP have not fielded their candidates. The election was necessitated after death of sitting BSP MLA Jamuna Nishad.
