Bye-polls to one Lok Sabha and 31 assembly seats spread across seven states are being held today amid tight security. The Election Commission has said that central police force personnel have been deployed in Assam, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh and Kerala.<br/><br/>In Uttar Pradesh, polling is taking place for Firozabad Lok Sabha seat where Congress' politician-turned-actor Raj Babbar is pitched against SP supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav's daughter-in-law Dimple.<br/><br/>In Assam, polling for bye-elections to the Dhekiajuli and South Salmara Assembly constituencies has begun at morning amidst tight security. Polling will continue till 4.00 this afternoon. Our Guwahati Correspondent reports that voting in all the 333 polling centres of both the constituencies is going on smoothly. 10 to 15 per cent voters in both the constituencies have cast their ballots in the first two hours of polling. <br/><br/>Meanwhile, in Himachal Pradesh, polling has began peacefully today morning for the two assembly seats namely Rohru in Shimla district and Jawali in Kangra district.<br/><br/>In Kerala, polling has begun in the assembly constituencies of Kannur, Ernakulam and Alappuzha. Out of 360 polling stations set up for the bypolls, 87 have been identified as sensitive. Security measures have been stepped up in all the constituencies, particularly in Kannur, which was recently in the thick of a controversy over alleged attempts to include voters from outside in the voters list.<br/><br/>In West Bengal, peaceful voting is on for bye election in ten assembly seats in the state. Around 30 per cent voters have cast their franchise in first three hours of polling. The state chief electoral officer Mr. Debasish Sen told that no major untoward incident has o far been reported barring few replacements of electronic voting machines in some polling booths due to technician snag. The counting of the votes will take place on November 10.<br/>
