Polling is in progress for the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections in seven Constituencies spread over four states and all the 32-Assembly segments in Sikkim. The Lok Sabha Constituencies are three in Assam, both seats in Goa, the lone seat in Sikkim and the remaining one seat in Tripura. Elaborate security arrangements have been made to ensure peaceful polling.
In Assam, peaceful voting is on for Silchar, Karimganj and Autonomous district seats amidst tight security.
Karimganj and Silchar recorded 40 percent voting during first five hours.
Chief Electoral Officer of Assam Vijayendra said that over 30 percent voting has been reported during first four hours. He said that 10 EVMs have been replaced due to technical errors. People in large numbers including first time voters, leaving the comforts of home, are queuing up to cast their votes.
Polling will come to an end at 5pm. In Karbi Anglong, pro-talk insurgent cadres are also exercising their voting rights. 418 micro – observers have been deployed in this phase at vulnerable booths. Central Para-military forces have also been deployed at 803 polling booths. A total of 37 candidates are in fray in this phase. Congress, Asom Gana Parishad, BJP, AIUDF, Trinamool Congress, CPI(M), Aam Aadmi Party , CPI-ML, SUCI ,among others, are in the fray.
In Goa, heavy voting is on in both the two Parliamentary Constituencies. 35 per cent polling recorded till a short while ago.
North Goa BJP candidate and former Union Minister Shripad Naik cast his vote in Sapendra voting center in Old Goa while south Goa Congress candidate Alex Reginald Lorence inked in Kudchade Batora in the early hours.
Over 40 percent polling has been reported in 1st four hours in Tripura East constituency. Sikkim recorded over 30 percent polling in first four hours for the lone Lok Sabha seat and the 32-member Assembly.
