Polling in progress in MP; 26% voter turnout reported so far

In Madhya Pradesh, peaceful polling is in progress in most parts of the state, barring few violent incidents in some areas. Talking to media in Bhopal, chief electoral officer Jaideep Govind said that an average 26 per cent polling was reported till 12 pm. He said that the highest 39 per cent polling was recorded in Harda while minimum 15 per cent polling was recorded in Alirajpur. He said that voters are turning up in good numbers in tribal belts including Badwani, Jhabua, Mandla and Dindori. An Electronic Voting Machine was broken by anti-social elements in a polling booth of Lahar segment. This EVM was later replaced and polling again started their peacefully. Violent incidents were also reported from Ater, Radauli, Lahar Chattarpur, Seoni Malwa and Chaurai.

An EVM was looted in Dhastuan village of Morena district. There are reports of boycott of polling from nine polling booths from across the state due to different reasons.

More than four crore, 64 lakh voters will decide the political fate of in all 2583 candidates including 200 women candidates. A total of 53946 polling booths have been set up in the state. 14950 polling booths have been declared critical. As many as 514 polling booths have been set up in naxal-prone areas. 552 companies of security forces and more than forty thousand home guard jawans have been deployed for the security purposes. Two helicopters are keeping vigil in the naxal affected Balaghat and Singrauli districts.
