In Himachal Pradesh, polling for the 25-member Shimla Municipal Corporation ended peacefully at 4 this evening. According to official sources, more than 64 percent voters turn out. With this, the fate of 95 candidates has been sealed in the electronic voting machines, EVMs. The counting of votes will take place tomorrow from 8 am.This time election for the post of Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the municipal corporation in Shimla is also being held through direct vote for the first time. There are 7 candidates for the post of mayor and five for deputy mayor The main contest is among the Congress, BJP and CPI-M. The polls are being seen as the mini electoral battle since it is being held ahead of the assembly election scheduled to be held later this year. Ever since the first elected body of Shimla Municipal Corporation was installed in 1986 , the congress party has swept all the five municipal corporation polls held so far.
