In Gujarat, polling for general elections of 24 District Panchayat, 208 Taluka Panchayat and 53 Nagar Palikas is being held today. Quoting official sources, our Ahmedabad Correspondent reports that about 17 thousand candidates are in fray for total 6765 seats of District and Taluka Panchayats and Nagar palikas. Polling will be held from 8 am to 5 pm today in which about 2 crore 48 lakh voters are eligible to use their franchise. The main fight is between BJP and Congress, however about 93 seats have already declared unopposed. Counting of votes will be held on Saturday- 23rd October. Tight security arrangements have been made for free and fair polling.
