In Madhya Pradesh, polling in 227 assembly segments began at 8 am and will continue till 5 pm, while for 3 constituencies in naxal affected Balaghat district, it began at 7 am and will end at 3 in the afternoon. More than four crore 64 lakh voters will decide the fate of 2,583 candidates, including 200 women candidates. AIR correspondent reports that about 50 lakh youth voters will exercise their franchise for the first time in the state.
None-of-the-above-NOTA option is being used in the Electronic Voting Machines for the first time in the assembly elections in the state.
In Mizoram, polling began at 7 this morning, amidst tight security, to elect their representatives in 40 Assembly Constituencies. Voting will end at 4 this afternoon. 420 candidates are in the fray and more than 6.9 lakh voters, including 3.5 lakh females, are expected to exercise their franchise. AIR correspondent reports that for the first time in the country, Voter-Verified Paper Audit Trails, VVPAT are being used in 10 Assembly segments in this election. VVPAT is a machine attached to the Electronic Voting Machines which allows voters to check if their votes were cast the way they wished.
Meanwhile, campaigning is in full swing for the Rajasthan and Delhi Assembly polls. Rajasthan will go to the polls on the 1st of next month, while voting in the national capital will be held on the 4th.
