Polling has begun for the 68 member Himachal Pradesh assembly. More than 46 lakh voters would cast their vote in a single phase today.
459 candidates, including 34 women are trying their luck. Elaborate security arrangments have been made to ensure free and peaceful polling.
60 companies of para military forces along with state police have been deployed to provide security cover in the state for holding elections in a peaceful manner.
Boundaries of Himachal Pradesh with neighboring states have already been sealed to check the entry of unscrupulous elements.
The main contest is between the BJP and the Congress and political fate of their leaders including Veerbhadra Singh and Prem Kumar Dhumal will be decided in today's voting.
The polling will end at 5.00 pm. Counting of votes will be held on 20th December .
