Polling begins for the lone Lok Sabha constituency in Mizoram

In Mizoram, polling for the lone Lok Sabha seat and bye – election to the Hrangturzo assembly constituency seat began a short while ago. Three candidates are in the fray including sitting Congress canddiate and Independent candidate of the United Democratic Front comprising eight political parties and the Aam Aadmi Party candidate.

Our correspondent reports that voting began at 7 this morning and will continue till 5 this evening. Right now, women voters outnumber their male counterparts. Most of the women voters said that they come early and cast their votes so that they can go back to their domestic work. Polling is on in 1126 polling stations with Mizoram police along with eight companies of para military forces from outside the state. It is expected that a high voter turn out will be recorded as the day progresses.

Polling in this constituency was scheduled in second phase at last Wednesday, but it was postponed for today.
