People of Nigeria are going to the polls today in delayed Parliamentary elections against the background of violence. The elections scheduled for last Saturday was shifted for today after logistics caused delay in the delivery of electoral material. The election is seen as a big test for Nigeria whose past elections have been seen to be flawed by international observers. After the parliamentary polls, the presidential election will be held on the 16th of this month and governors and the state parliamentarians will be elected on April 26. At least nine people were killed in a bomb blast at electoral commission office and in the attack on a post storing polling material on the eve of parliamentary polls. Officials said five people were killed when a bomb exploded at the office of the country's Independent National Electoral Commission located in the northern city of Suleja. Four persons, including three electoral officers and a party chief, were killed in northern state of Borno when gunmen opened fire on them while they were preparing to hand over material to polling officials.
