Poll process has taken momentum in Assam as the two political stalwarts started campaigning from two different corners of the state. When BJP President Rajnath Singh was addressing rally in Karimganj in Barak Valley, the Congress President Sonia Gandhi started her mission from Lakhimpur in the Brahmaputra Valley almost at the same time.

Ms. Sonia Gandhi said that in this election each vote will decide which ideology is going to lead the country. She said that Congress has played a role in the development of weaker sections. Ms. Sonia gandhi said that the Right to Information and MNREGA helped in the development of people. Referring to the congress manifesto she reiterated their commitment for better health care facilities, medicine and housing for all is in the top of their agenda if they are voted to come to the power this time. She alleged that BJP and Asom Gana Parishad did nothing for the development of Assam and the country as a whole, when they were in power.

On the other hand, BJP President Rajnath Singh said Congress failed in bringing development because of its wrong financial policy, faulty economic planning and gross corruption. He also said that if there is no development in North East then there could not be any thinking even of a healthy nation. Rajnath Singh alleged that the Congress has not taken any steps to prevent illegal migration.
