In Assam, a high level review meeting on polls preparedness is underway in Guwahati. Senior officials of the Election Commission of India are attending the meeting. Official sources said that all Deputy Commissioners and SP of Assam along with senior election officials of other North East states are also present. Later, another meeting with the Nodal Officers of all North East states will be held.
It is learnt that the meeting is discussing poll preparedness and coordination between North East states during Lok Sabha elections. Instructions have been given to all district administrations regarding free and fair polls, steps to be taken to create awareness, comfort to voters and prevention of violation of model code of conduct. Tight security measures to prevent any attempt of militant groups to disturb poll process is also in the agenda.
AIR correspondent reports, the high level preview meeting has discussed on the steps need to be taken to ensure free and fair polls in the state. Deputy Election Commissioner and other senior officials of the Election Commission have instructed all the district administrations to make necessary arrangements to ensure smooth polls, voters’ awareness and prevention of violation of model code of conduct. Later, the officials will also hold talks with all the nodal officers of North East states. Security measures to prevent any attempt of militant groups to disturb poll process are likely to figure in the discussion.
