Political row erupts between BJP, Cong over Aamir Khan's remark on intolerance

A political row between BJP and Congress has erupted over actor Aamir Khan's remarks on the intolerance in the country. While BJP has criticised the actor's comments, Congress has extended its support. At an award function in Mumbai last evening, the actor joined the number of artists and writers protesting against rising intolerance in the country, saying that there is a sense of insecurity in the country.

Reacting to this, BJP today said that some isolated extreme incidents should not be allowed to define India. Party spokesperson Nalin Kohli said that Aamir Khan's last movie PK was a resounding box office success despite protests by some right wing outfits, stressing that it was a example of how tolerant Indian society is. Minister of State for Home, Kiren Rijiju said that the debate on intolerance is misplaced.

Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi, however, said in a tweet that the government should reach out to people instead of branding all those who question the government and the Prime Minister as unpatriotic, anti national or motivated.
