Home Minister P Chidambaram has convened a meeting of political parties from Andhra Pradesh in New Delhi today to discuss Srikrishna Committee report on Telangana issue. Eight political parties have been invited to attend the meet. Telangana Rashtra Samiti, Telugu Desham Party and BJP have decided to skip the meeting which will be attended by Congress, PRP, MIM, CPI(M) and CPI. After the meeting, the Srikrishna Committee report will be made public.Congress leaders held several rounds of discussions with Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy and leaders from Telangana region through the day yesterday. Congress President Sonia Gandhi held consultations with Mr Kiran Reddy for over an hour in the morning and is understood to have discussed the political situation and the likely fallout of the report. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee told the two Congress leaders, who will represent the party in the meeting, that it is just to hand over Justice Srikrishna committee report to political parties and that they will get some time to give their opinion on the issue. Later, Mr. Mukherjee also met with MPs and senior leaders from Telangana region and got to know the situation there. Ahmed Patel, the Congress chief's political secretary, was also present at the meeting.After the meeting, the leaders said the Congress HighCommand has always been symphathetic to the cause of aSeparate Telangana and hoped that a new state will be formed.Meanwhile, BJP has demanded the creation of a separate Telangana state without any delay.
