With the results of four state assembly elections out, political parties are taking stock of the post poll scenario. While the BJP says, the election results reflect the national mood, the ruling Congress has made it clear that Assembly elections are fought on local issues and will not have any bearing on the Parliamentary elections. The BJP Parliamentary Board met in New Delhi yesterday. Its President, Rajnath Singh told reporters after the meeting that Mr. Narendra Modi's work with the support of the States' Chief Ministers, resulted in a big win for the party.
The Congress President, Sonia Gandhi has convened a meeting of party leaders this evening to take stock of the post-poll scene. Several other political parties have also convened their meetings to look into their performance at the hustings.
BJP registered impressive win in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and managed to retain power in Chhattisgarh in a nail bitting finish.
Meanwhile, National Conference leader and Union Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah has said that his party will continue its alliance with the UPA. Talking to reporters outside Parliament, Dr Abdullah said, all out efforts should be made to strengthen the Congress party.
BSP Chief Ms Mayawati attributed the wrong policies pursued by Congress to its decline in the Assembly elections. She said her party is now giving outside support to the UPA government at the Centre to keep communal forces away.
