With the results of four state assembly elections out, political parties are taking stock of the post poll scenario. While the BJP says, the election results reflect the national mood, the ruling Congress has made it clear that Assembly elections are fought on local issues and will not have any bearing on the Parliamentary elections. The BJP Parliamentary Board met in New Delhi yesterday. Its President, Rajnath Singh told reporters after the meeting that Mr. Narendra Modi's work with the support of the States' Chief Ministers, resulted in a big win for the party.
The Congress President, Sonia Gandhi has convened a meeting of party leaders this evening to take stock of the post-poll scene. Several other political parties have also convened their meetings to look into their performance at the hustings.
BJP registered impressive win in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan and managed to retain power in Chhattisgarh in a nail bitting finish.
Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar has called upon Congress and other allies to ponder over the outcome of the Assembly poll results in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Delhi.
Mr Pawar said in a statement that Congress has suffered a jolt in the polls and everybody, including Congress and NCP, will have to ponder over this seriously. He said that the new generation had a big role in this electoral defeat and their anger has been reflected through the ballot. Mr. Pawar also stressed on the importance of strong leaders, who can take quick decisions. He stated that the ruler must be strong and one who ensures effective measures and also has the capacity to implement the decisions taken.
