In Chennai, heightened political activities are unfolding today amidst uncertainty over the AIADMK General Secretary VK Sasikala's swearing in ceremony as the state chief minister. After the major rebellion by the caretaker chief minister O.Panneerselvam against the chief minister-designate Sasikala, her loyalists organized a show of strength of the ruling AIADMK MLAs in her favour at the party headquarters in Chennai.

The loyalists of Ms Sasikala claimed the support of 131 of the 134 MLAs supporting her. It was the second meeting since her election for the post of chief minister on Sunday. Party leaders said current political turmoil triggered by the revolt of Mr O.Panneerselvam has been discussed in the meeting. Ms Sasikala has asked the party cadres to expose what she called the conspiracies by the opposition against the party.
Meanwhile, Mr Panneerselvam has expressed confidence that he could prove his majority on the floor of the House if asked to do so. He said a full-fledged inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of late chief minister J.Jayalalithaa led by a Supreme Court judge would be made to dispel doubts in the minds of the people.

He said during the 75 days of hospitalization of late Jayalalithaa, he could not meet her even once. He strongly refuted the charge of Ms Sasikala of staging rebellion induced by the DMK, saying there is no relationship at all with the opposition. He said exchange of pleasantries between him and opposition leader MK Stalin in a few occasions is just a normal human behavior. Mr Panneerselvam also dismissed allegations of having any truck with the BJP as baseless. He also said he is determined to meet Governor Vidyasagar Rao when he visits Chennai and explain the current political situation. When asked if he would welcome Ms J.Deepa, the niece of late Jayalalithaa into politics, he said he has respect for her as the blood relative of the departed leader and would accommodate her in the party.

In a related development, the DMK working president MK Stalin today said his party had nothing to with internal squabbles of the ruling party. In a statement in Chennai, he asked for a CBI probe into the allegations levelled by the caretaker chief minister Panneerselvam that he was forced to resign. He asked Ms Sasikala to respond to the charges being made by Mr Panneerselvam rather than pointing fingers at his party and accused her of trying to find a way out of the problems in her party. Mr Stalin made a scathing attack on Ms Sasikala saying she is trying to occupy the chief minister chair through short cuts.
Meanwhile, the acting Governor of Tamil Nadu Vidyasagar Rao today continued to stay put in Mumbai. There is no confirmation of when he will travel to Chennai.

The reverberations of the night time shocker by Mr O.Panneerselvam continue to be felt in the state bpolitics. Both the camps of the AIADMK are prepared to meet the Governor with their claims when he arrives Chennai. Governor's visit from Raj Bhavan at Mumbai is not forthcoming today. Ms Sasikala flaunts her strength with today's MLAs meet though unfolding events may also play major roles in the current political situation
