Political activities gear up in Maharashtra, Haryana, AP going for polls

Congress party today held marathon discussions in New Delhi to finalize the list of candidates for the assembly elections in Maharashtra. Tickets of several ministers are believed to have been cleared. According to party sources Central Election Committee, CEC, decided candidates for more than 90 seats. The CEC held at the Party chief Mrs. Sonia Gandhi's residence was attended by the Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and other top party leaders. Congress and NCP are fighting the elections together. The Maharashtra Chief Minister Mr. Ashok Chavan and the PCC Chief Mr. Manik Rao Thackrey have been camping in New Delhi for the last few days for the ticket distribution exercise.Meanwhile political activities are gaining momentum in three poll bound states of Maharashtra, Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh. The BJP has released the first list of 66 candidates for the Maharashtra Assembly elections which includes the daughter of late Pramod Mahajan. So far Eighty-three candidates have filed their nominations in the State. In Haryana, Indian National Lok Dal and Akali Dal (Badal) have also reached a seat-sharing arrangement. The Congress party is contesting the polls of its own. Twenty-eight candidates have filed nominations so far in the State.In Arunachal Pradesh, the Trinamool Congress has released a list of 26 candidates for the coming polls. The Congress, BJP and JD(U) are also in the fray.The voting for the three Assemblies will be held on the 13th of next month. Counting of votes will take place on the 22nd of next month.
