Government today said a policy on bio fuel will be framed soon. <br/><br/>Addressing a function on the occasion of World Bio Fuel Day in New Delhi, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dhramendra Pradhan said that Centre is making all efforts to promote bio fuel across the country. <br/><br/>The Minister said efforts are also being made to bring down dependency on crude oil. He said, 80 per cent of fuel used for transportation and domestic usage in India is imported which costs 6 Lakh Crore rupees. <br/><br/>He said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the target to bring down this dependence by 10 per cent by the 75th year of Independence in 2022.<br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, Road, Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said, he and Mr Pradhan will request Finance Ministry to bring down GST on bio diesel to five per cent. Currently, bio diesel is charged at 18 per cent under the GST. Mr Gadkari said promotion of bio-fuel will strengthen India's economy.
