Police seized more than Rs 1 crore rupees new currency notes in Thane

In Maharashtra, Police has seized more than 1 crore rupees new currency notes and detained three persons in Thane. Joint Commissioner of Police Ashutosh Dumbre told agencies that three persons were going to exchange the new 2,000 rupees notes totalling one crore rupees for the now defunct 500 and 1,000 rupees notes totalling 1.20 crore rupees, thus charging 20 per cent commission. <br/><br/>Mr Dumbre further said, the investigation is on and the police have also informed the Income Tax authorities. On Monday, two persons were held in neighbouring Navi Mumbai with 23.70 lakh rupees, while three persons were held in Ulhasnagar in Thane district after 9.76 lakh rupees in 2,000 rupee denomination were seized from them.
