In Uttar Pradesh, police has lodged FIR against 17 Khap Panchayat members and 250 unidentified persons for attacking police personnel and burning their vehicle at the village Asara under Ramala police station in Baghpat district. AIR Allahabad correspondent reports, no one has been arrested so far in this regard. Police had detained two persons from the village for investigation in connection with issuing dictates against women through Panchayat. They were later released. Khap Panchayat was called by the 36 different groups at the village on July 10 to discuss social issues and issued four dictates allegedly against women and girls. Panchayat leaders have claimed that they had convened the meeting to discuss the social evils like dowry and issued dictates against bad customs and traditions. They have also said that dictates would not be withdrawn. Meanwhile State Women Commission has issued notice to the District magistrate and sought detailed report from her and actions taken by the administration against the Panchayat dictates. Adequate numbers of security personnel's are deployed in the area to maintain law and order.
