In Assam, a major tragedy was averted with recovery of a powerful improvised explosive device (IED) at Haraputa in Gossaigaon subdivision of Kokrajhar district. According to police, the timer device, weighing five kilogrammes was recovered from a Bongaigaon-bound bus coming from Alipurduar. After receiving some intelligence inputs, security forces carried search operation and recovered the bomb. One person identified as Ratan Baskey from Falakata in Bengal has been arrested in this connection and he is being interrogated.The bomb was later defused by experts. Meanwhile, police arrested two pro-talk ULFA cadres-Bitupan Gogoi and Suresh Baruah from Mohkhuti Tea Estate under Demow police station in Sibsagar district last night.
